O embaixador de Portugal em Washington, Francisco Duarte Lopes, foi recebido no consulado de New Bedford na terça-feira, dia 27 de agosto pelo cônsul Tiago Cabrita de Sousa.
O evento contou com as presenças do Senador Estadual Michael J. Rodrigues que é membro do Senado Estadual de Massachusetts, representando o 1º Distrito de Bristol e Plymouth e é também Presidente do Comité do Senado Ways and Means.
Presentes na cerimónia estiveram ainda o Deputado Estadual de Massachusetts, Christopher Hendricks, representante do 11º distrito de Bristol, que inclui Acushnet e o North End de New Bedford; o Deputado Estatal Tony Cabral, representante do 13º Distrito de Bristol e ainda o Mayor de New Bedford Jon Michel que aproveitou a ocasião para entregar uma bússola e um boné ao embaixador para que este “saiba sempre encontrar o caminho para New Bedford”.

The Portuguese ambassador to the United States, Francisco Duarte Lopes, was welcomed at the New Bedford consulate on Tuesday, August 27th, by Consul Tiago Cabrita de Sousa. The event was attended by State Senator Michael J. Rodrigues, a member of the Massachusetts State Senate representing the 1st Bristol and Plymouth District, and the Chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee.
Also present at the ceremony were Massachusetts State Representative Christopher Hendricks, who represents the 11th Bristol District, including Acushnet and the North End of New Bedford; State Representative Tony Cabral, representing the 13th Bristol District; and New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell. Mayor Mitchell took the opportunity to present the ambassador with a compass and a cap, symbolically ensuring he always knows the way back to New Bedford.
